Chicken

Funding

1) The budget for Chicken was £110,000.
2) Joe Stephenson raised the money entirely through investment by individuals (e.g. rich friends/contacts). This is because no funding body was willing to fund Chicken.
3) The Chicken budget is a micro-budget film. This is an extremely low amount of money to make a film, especially compared to Hollywood-British blockbusters like Spectre or Paddington 2.
4) The BFI Film Fund is an organisation that uses National Lottery funds to develop and support original UK filmmakers and films, and to increase the audiences who can enjoy them. They contribute because they provide support for the production, development and completion of feature films which fairly reflect people from different backgrounds. Also, they support high-quality British and independent releases, increase film choice for audiences and offer a springboard for UK film exports.
5) Chicken failed to secure funding from the BFI Film Fund because the movie was low-budget and had a lower-income filmmaker.

Production

1) During production the movie had difficulties. The fact that they used all external locations meant that they were victim to rain, issues with lighting etc.
2) The film was shot in 19 days.
3) In particular it was difficult for Joe Stephenson to film the external locations, this is because there were issues with weather etc.

Distribution

1) The film failed to secure a distribution deal when first made in 2014 because it was low budget and didn't have promise of making profit.
2) Chicken featured in many film festivals between 2014-2016: Edinburgh film festival, Busan 20th international film festival, New Hampshire film festival, palm beach international film festival and Julian Dubuque film festival.
3)Film festivals are inspiring event that literate people attend, so by promoting the movie in a festival then the movie will be spoken about due to it appealing to a niche audience and quite unique.
4)In UK cinemas Chicken was released on 20th May 2016.
5)The reason MUBI chose the film to feature in its service because it appeals to a niche audiences, people who are more educated, this is their target market.
6)Film 4 was a good choice to give the film its UK television premiere because it appeals to a niche audience/ more educated. Film 4 is an art-house channel that shows unique movies.
7) The film will be released on DVD in the UK by Network Releasing and the digital distribution in Canada/USA will be in 2018.

Promotion

1) The trailer suggests that the genre of this movie would be drama, as its more to do with the protagonist and his line of events. The audience gets a perspective which is unique and they will find that the boy is 'in love' with his chicken-Fiona. They also get an insight on harsh working class conditions.
2)The synergy between the film trailer and the poster is that they both use review quotes to emphasises how good their movie is. They also right the names of the people who said them and list the awards the movie has received.
3) The review quotes from Mark Kermode are very important because he is a leading figure in the film industry and is a film critic, so people take his views and opinions seriously. This way more people will watch Chicken.
4) The Twitter account is significant in creating and maintaining interest because people will keep re-tweeted information about this movie and this shows the increasing popularity of this movie. Additionally, the fact that they advertise on this creates and maintains interests because it leaves the audiences hungry to know more about the film and as a result they will watch it.
5) The twitter account re-tweets Florence Pugh an actress and the film review by Sam. This helps promote the film because it keeps the audience engaged and interested with the film.
6)The Facebook page uses video and picture content to promote the film by showing their film reviews, giving the audience insights on the movie, showing them the film poster with reviews and showing them where they can purchase or watch the film on.
7) The pages liked by the Chicken Facebook page are New Hampshire Film Festival, Everyman Cinemas and Little White Lies. This tells us that the film is quite unique and appeals to a niche audience.
8)The celebrities that are mentioned on this page are Mark Kermode, Noel Clarke, Karen Gillian and Stephen Frears. These names are highlighted because these people are very big, influential people in the film industry as they are critics and can persuade.
9) The key purpose of this website is to promote the movie. This way it shows the audiences where the movie is currently available. This tells us that the influence of New Technology is increasing as more people can pass on the details via social media, this way it is faster and more efficient as people spend more time on social media nowadays.
10) The Chicken YouTube channel features short official clips from the movie. They help promote Chicken because they are clips which leaves the audiences hanging and wanting to know more, it keeps their interest and this way it makes more and more people to go and watch it.
