Lighting:still image analysis





 Top lighting is used in this picture and their is also a hint of natural light from a potentional widow above, as their is no other type of lighting used for e.g. key light or back light. the effect created is very natural, dewy and almost very dreamy






 high key lighting has been used in this picture to make the character appear more realistic, their is also a hint of back lighting to define the actors silhouette, under lighting has also been used to create shadow on his face, the effect of this is that the character appear as the main protagonist.








  Low key lighting, top lighting and under lighting has been used in this picture. The result of that is that the gun the character is holding is highlighted and so is the rain in the background which creates a some what fatal atmosphere.





Low key lighting has been used in this picture which creates a very dramatic shadow behind the character to intensify the horror scene.

In this image low key lighting has been used alongside with back lighting to create shadow an also define the silhouette of the actors this create mystery and suspense as their faces are covered.



 The shadow behind the side of her face suggests that low key lighting has been used as well as under lighting as the side of her face is slightly blurred out with the shadow but not to a point where here facial expressions are hidden. This use lighting makes her facial expression look ver prominent and creates a mysterious atmosphere in contrast with her face.
As the facial features of the actor shown very prominently this indicates that top lighting has been used. High key lighting is used to make the actor appear very realistic and make her appear glamorous by giving the effect that she is under a natural lighting.
Low key lighting has been used as well as bak lighting to create an even more darker shadow, this creates a very mysterious and fearful atmosphere.


Hight key lighting has been used to create a sense of natural light to create a dim atmosphere. The use of top lighten accentuates the character facial features and expression.

1) What is the history and narrative behind War of the Worlds? The War of the Worlds radio play (1938) is adapted from the original War of the Worlds novel by H.G Wells (published in 1898). It is about  an alien invasion and the ensuing  conflict  between mankind and an extraterrestrial  race from Mars. statement of intent

I intend to produce a horror film trailer that is approximately 90 seconds long. For the trailer I intent to use horror movie conventions such as suspenseful music, low key lighting and fast paced editing. The element of repetition (Neale) will enable my production to be recognized as horror; I will include equilibrium and disequilibrium (Todrov) however my trailer will end on a cliff hanger, so the audience is motivated in order to identify the new equilibrium. The trailer will hint at the narrative which involves, a group of teenagers who are currently in high school and one of them experiences supernatural presences after reading a book- I will be using a copy of hunger games book which I will damage to add to the horror effects.
